This painting was something I shelved years after its inception in 2004 because it was, obviously, an unfinished painting. Then we got married, and moved into an apartment with a big empty wall looking so bare. This market vendor piece is relatively big in size so I decided to hang it as is.
Somehow, I kind of fell in love with it as an unfinished artwork. The empty spaces added what I think is character and decided ever since to leave it this way. Not to mention it was done in acrylic which I find even harder to handle than ink and watercolors and I didn’t want to get frustrated all over again.
I made this painting when I was living in the norther region of the Philippines in Baguio City. Almost everyday, I would find a reason to drive by and visit the small market nearby for fresh produce.
I’m still contemplating whether to leave this totally unfinished as the way it has been for eight years now, or whether I should try one more time to give it some actual closure…

That painting is finished. It perfectly captures that time of change in your life. Move on. There are many new paintings inside you waiting to be released.
Oh wow, I totally agree
Aside from the personal transition, it shows how it has weathered the elements of time — from water stains from a flooded room to a smears made by a child holding a permanent marker. I guess I shall officially declare it complete after today
I love your use of color and unique style. Keep painting!
Thanks for the encouragement
I think the painting is asking to be left as is. Its a delightful piece!
Thank you so much
And I think you’re right. Perhaps the imperfection in its unfinished state is the story.
