“KOPI, TEA AND MEE” (Commissioned)

COMMISSIONED by a client currently residing in Singapore

“KOPI, TEA AND MEE”, 2018
Cherie Altea
Acrylic / Mixed-Media on Canvas
30 x 40 in.

The client commissioned a painting that captures her friendship with Singapore, the life she has built here and her love for the Little Red Dot she calls home. ‘Kopi’ is the local term for coffee and ‘mee’ is a type of yellow noodles found in local fare.

There were several breakthroughs for this Peranakan-inspired artwork, mainly:

1. the client’s wavy blonde hair,
2. butterflies (I’ve never drawn them),
3. hands doing things,
4. a significant amount of pink, and
5. the side-view orientation.
