REMOVE TAG (Commissioned)

COMMISSIONED by a client residing  in Singapore

“REMOVE TAG”, 2018
Acrylic / Mixed-Media on Linen
36 x 48 in.

This is perhaps the most personal project I’ve done in years.  It was the first time a very good friend and classmate from childhood commissioned an artwork. The shape of the girl’s face is based on a strong family trait: their squarish jawline.  I made this painting with the help of photos of her sister and picture my friend shared of her late mother.
She and her husband requested the piece to be done in blue and green, representing each of their two rival colours of opposing alma mater. A couple of firsts for this painting, such as:

  • a girl sitting on a couch with pillows
  •  the couch and the pillows!
  • geometric patterns
  • perspective
  • more dreaded hand movement
