THE BRIDGE TO POPIAH

THE BRIDGE TO POPIAH, 2024
Acrylic / Mixed Media on Canvas
36 x 36 in

It’s been 7 years since my first solo exhibit in Singapore so I thought I’d celebrate my 5th year of remission with my upcoming and first solo show in Manila this October. ONE SUNRISE AT A TIME tells a story about the cultures and communities that helped me find my voice and thrive through all of life’s twists and turns. It was timed for the Breast Cancer Awareness month of October with the intention of creating a safe space and dialogue for all those who have learned to find joy and meaning and have built a new life beyond grief and loss.

As an independent artist who has had no gallery representation throughout my career, my work has evolved into overthinking women and vibrant maximalist artworks, the bulk of which are commissioned art that have found forever homes in 15 cities worldwide, namely: New York, Pittsburgh, Arizona, Texas, D.C., Singapore, Koh Samui, Manila, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Vancouver, Atherton, Sydney, Bath, and Bahrain.

I now welcome each morning with a spring in my step no matter how lousy yesterday was. Ageing, and all the white strands, wrinkles and sagging skin that come with it, is something I happily welcome with open arms because growing old is a privilege not bestowed on many.  I no longer make grand plans for the future and now find comfort in living one sunrise at a time because tomorrow is enough.

With the support of the Philippine Embassy of Singapore, this piece went on exhibit in Find Good Art’s group show of Filipino artists at the Pan Pacific Hotel in June 2024. Fortunately, it made its way back to Manila in time for my first solo show in Manila this October.

ONE SUNRISE AT A TIME will run through 6-19 October 2024 at @risespaceartgallery , 2/F Comuna Bldg, 238 Pablo Ocampo Sr. Ext., Makati City. Gallery hours are 11am-6pm from Tuesday to Sunday.
