How does one feel creative when life throws you an extraordinary curve ball while it yanks the rug from under your feet in one fell swoop?

I usually have drafts that evolve daily as the work progresses  For these two, I had nothing. I couldn’t see the art in my head no matter how hard I tried because my mind was constantly buffering.

As if the universe was not done with their jokes, I found myself on the receiving end of devastating news – and the miracle. All within a breath of each other.

By this time, the typhoons had arrived, keeping my storm within company. Dark skies forced me and fellow artists, all of us rushing towards an exhibit deadline, to take pause due to poor lighting. As the city hunkered down while the skies wreaked havoc, a friend sent me an old photo of the two of us. I found myself pulling out whatever photographs I have in my possession so I could send her something in return, but what I unearthed was my baby album instead.

Have you ever seen a flower push itself and grow out of broken pavement? Often times improbable, but not entirely impossible. It’s a simple reminder that life and light – and above all, love – always finds a way.
